Divine Strength and Refuge: Insight from David’s Triumph

We all know the story of David and Goliath. There are so many life lessons you can take from that uplifting story. Hurdles in our life often look like giants. We feel like our giants are too substantial for us to overcome. Sometimes we can’t see over that hill and we just give up.

“It’s too tough.”

“I don’t have the strength.”

“I have done all I can God.”

God has equipped us with all that we need to get through obstacles. At the time we are going through strife we don’t see that. We only see our troubles and pain. In Samuel 17 MSG David is coming into battle a ten foot tall giant. Saul told David he was too young and inexperienced to fight Goliath. David let his father know while he is tending his sheep, there have been lions and bears that he has slayed. He protected his sheep and he will do the same for his people.

This makes me reflect on the fact that when we come across a giant. We forget the other giants that God has helped us fight. We forget that God has at numerous times been on the front line with us. And we have conquered so much over our lifetime. That we have somehow omitted from our memories all the storms that Jesus calmed for us. He said, “Peace be still.” And it was still.

David is saying he has encountered many occasions his life could have been taken by wild animals. These wild animals tried to attack his sheep. God has his back then and God will have his back now! Oh, if we could see every difficulty like this!

When David approached Goliath and announced to him that he comes in the name of God he has no fear. The whole world will know there is an extraoridnary God in Isreal once this battle is finished. With one stone and one sling David knocked the giant down. Can you imagine how everyone was in shock that was all it took? We think we need an entire army when all we need is God! He equips us with everything we need.

– Psalm 46:1 – “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”

In times of distress do you go to God first? Do you seek his refuge and strength? I got to a place where I was so weak and broken. Depression covered me like a weighted blanket. I didn’t want to even see the next day. No one answered my phone calls. No one knocked on my door to check on me. I went down on my knees in prayer and there I found my refuge and strength. God is all I needed. From that day onward I know He is all I need. I can make it through every storm, downfall, and road block through our Savior. He has equipped me through every road of life with His truth!

We are fully prepared and equipped for every situation we will encounter. We must submit to His ways. God’s ways are not like are own. Once we get out of our own way, and seek his strength; that battle is no longer yours.

At times you need God to sit in his strength and heavenly covering, look to some of these scriputures. While you are praying say these scriputures to for your healing.

  •  Isaiah 40:29 – “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”
