Letting go of what is not serving you is an act of self love and having trust in God. It requires awareness, courage, and faith.
Have you ever held on to something long after it started. It was hurting you more than helping? A relationship that drained you. A habit, thought, even a version of yourself that you’ve outgrown.
We hold on because it’s familiar. At one point, it meant something. Familiar is nice and cozy. A warm, toasty blanket waiting for you on the couch on a snowy night. You know it’s there. Exactly where you left it on the couch. However, it’s summertime now. And that blanket has served it’s purpose in that season. You just can’t let go of that blanket. It’s burning you up in the summer. Causing you to sweat and fatigue as soon as you wrap yourself in it. But that doesn’t stop you from covering yourself from head to toe with that blanket.
In order to live in the present in peace, freedom, and with deeper faith you have to learn the art of letting go.

The Need For Control
You don’t have to have it all planned out. We think we have it all figured out and scheduled. to the last second. Life doesn’t work that way. There is a holy man that does though. God has our lives already planned out day by day. Surrender the urge to manipulate His outcomes and timelines. Proverbs 3:5 states
‘Trust in God with all of your heart, and lean not in your own understanding. In all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
Control says, “I got this. I have to do this by myself. If I don’t do this no one will. I have to fix this.”
Faith says,” God, even if I don’t understand what is going on right now. I trust You will take care of it.”
Letting go doesn’t mean you don’t care. It doesn’t mean you are giving up. Instead, it means giving God room to do His work.

Comparison
Scrolling through social media, seeing someones “perfect” life, their success, relationship, vacations- and suddenly you feel inadequate. Less than. So far behind in your life you deactivate your social media accounts and crawl under a rock.
Galatians 6:4-5 says from the MSG Bible “Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life.”
These verses emphasize self examination and personal responsibility. Examining if you are doing the work for God or is your focus on others. One upping someone else is jealousy motivating you or is the light of God’s word keeping you satisfied. Focus on the work God has set out for you.
God didn’t design your journey to be like hers. Or his. Or theirs. Your path is divinely customized. You don’t have to run their race. Jump in their lane and take what is not yours. You just have to be faithful in your own lane.
Fear of The Future
If you’ve ever laid awake at night, spiraling about the “what ifs,” this one is for you.
What if it doesn’t work out?
What if I never meet the right person?
What if I fail?
Fear is loud. It’s convincing. And it loves to dress up like as the truth. But Jesus said clearly in Matthew 6:34, “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.”

This verse emphasizes that tomorrow will naturally bring its own set of challenges and responsibilities. Adding today’s anxieties to them is unnecessary and unproductive.
God is already in your next week. Your next decision. Your next season. Knowing this should be a stress reliever.
Fear wants you paralyzed. You can’t live in the now and give all you need to this day if you are worried about tomorrow. Faith wants you peaceful. Faith leads to a state of tranquility and trust in God.
Let your mind become a place where God’s truth reigns and His peace dwells, giving you the strength to face whatever comes your way.
Reflection Questions:
- What are you afraid of losing, and what would happen if you truly trusted God with it?
- Where are you comparing yourself, and how can you turn that comparison into gratitude?
- Who or what are you still carrying that’s keeping you from healing?
